THANKSGIVING FELLOWSHIP AT JUDSONIA

    At Thanksgiving time this year (November 23-24) the Judsonia (Arkansas) MBC, and Pastor Richard Kamerman, will be entertaining a Fellowship Meeting. They have requested that a notice of this meeting be run in The CLARION HERALD -- using this means to invite brethren of like faith to share this time of fellowship around the Word of Truth.
    This is not something new for the Judsonia MBC, and they will do a commendable job of providing for all who attend.
    Why not plan NOW to make this Thanksgiving a truly memorable occasion -- by spending it with others of like precious faith in Judsonia, Arkansas?
    It would be most considerate if you would let the host church know of your plans to attend -- and how many will be coming with you. In this way it will be much easier for them to make the best possible arrangements for your comfort and enjoyment. Write:

SEE YOU IN JUDSONIAI Lord willing!!

THAT ELUSIVE "PEACE"

    The Camp David summit meeting is now history. It ended midst an array of glaring lights, TV cameras and microphones -- enabling a waiting world to hear the outcome. The desire of all nations is peace. Was it attained?
    Though a great deal of progress appears to have been made, toward heading off immediate acts of hostility, the "spirit of Camp David" produced only what the principals therein described as "a broad framework" wherein they hope eventually to conclude and sign a treaty of peace. But many other nations are involved -- nations who were not represented at Camp David. It is still too early to know exactly what their response will be toward the documents signed by the heads of the three participating governments.
    It is NOT mere pessimism that expects no unbreakable treaty or lasting peace without a great deal of further bloodshed and deep agony on the part of the Jewish people. The "many" in Israel will one day enter into a treaty of peace (for a period of 7 years) that will be broken and a terrible effort made to exterminate them. Only the true

and living God (the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) will prevent its becoming a reality.
    Israel will once more be driven from her homeland -- only to be restored by the sudden appearance (and her acceptance) of her once-rejected Messiah. She will then joyfully welcome Him as her Deliverer, her King, her Lord and her God!
    As the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ will subdue His enemies (and hers), blot our the transgressions of Israel, and establish her once again in a position of blessedness. She will, in fact, be chief among the nations during the millennium.
    Let us not put too much confidence in a pseudo-peace --established by treaty. Rather, let us look, long, hope and pray for the coming of Him Who is truly the Prince of Peace. When He appears a government of: truth, righteousness justice and equity will be established over the whole earth.
    Even so, COME, LORD JESUS!!

LOOK! AND BE SAVED!

    "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork", (Psalm 19:1). Creation itself so attests the being and power of God as to leave inexcusable that man who rebels against His benevolent lordship.
    "For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it.. I AM THE LORD: and there is none else", (Isa. 45:18).
    As an encouragement to our faith the Word of God records many miracles wherein the mighty power of God has been displayed. They speak eloquently of both His power and loving care.
    "Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord?....He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in dry places like a river ... He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so He led than through the depths, as through the wilderness", (Psa. 106:2; 105:41; 106:9).
    But only when God became incarnate, in the person of Jesus Christ, did the world really know the depth of divine graciousness and love. What mighty, loving deeds were done by Him! How utterly righteous was His conduct! With what unselfish humility did He lay down His life for the sins of a condemned world!
    He is the One Who still calls: "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I AM GOD, and there is none else, (Isa. 45:22). You must trust in JESUS -- or be eternally lost!
    Why not come to Him NOW? He will save, keep and satisfy!

THE HOLY SPIRIT: HIS MINISTRY TO JUDGES, APOSTLES AND PROPHETS

    In the providential ordering of His Theocratic purpose, God endued the Judges of Israel with such wisdom and power as would enable them to carry out His holy purpose. This He did through the Holy Spirit. Specific mention is made of His dealings with 1) OTHNEIL -- into whose hand God delivered the king of Mesopotamia, (Judg. 3:10); 2) GIDEON -- to whom God gave victory over the Midianites, (Judg. 6:34); 3) JEPHTHAT -- into whose hands God delivered the Ammonites, (Judg. 11:29); and 4) SAMSON -- in his dealings with the Philistines, (Judg. 13:25; 14:6, 19; 15:4-l5).
    Perhaps the greatest manifestation of the Spirit's work in the pre-Christian era was in His dealings with the prophets of Israel. To Him they constantly ascribed their messages, and from Him they received both spiritual insight and foresight.
    Specific mention is made of the Spirit's speaking through: MOSES, and the Elders of Israel, (Num. 11:17-29); BALAAM, (Num. 24:2); ELIJAH (I Kings l8:l2; 2 Kings 2:16); ELISHA, (2 Kings 2:15); AZARIAH, (2 Chron. 15:1); ISAIAH, (Acts 28:25-27) JEREMIAH, (1:9; 30:1-2); DANIEL, (4:8-9); JOEL, (2:28; Acts 2:16-17); and MICAH, (3:8; 2:7).
    With regard to the prophet, Ezekiel, it is said that: l)The Spirit entered-INTO him, (2:2); 2) Took him up, (3:12-14); 3) Lifted him up between the earth and heaven, (8:3; 10:17); 5) Took him up -- bringing him, in vision,

to Chaldea, (11:24); and 6) Took him up -- bringing Him into the inner court that he might behold the glory of God, (43:5).
    And there is considerable New Testament testimony concerning the Spirit's work in the apostles and prophets. The Spirit does not deal with all men as with them. To them He imparts SPECIAL GIFTS -- equipping them for their particular offices, (I Cor. 12:4, 8-11, 28-29).
    Consider the effect of the Spirit's work in the apostles and prophets: 1) Truth, long hidden, was revealed to them, (Eph. 3:5). 2) That foretold through the prophets did not come through their deep, independent meditation; it came by REVELATION of "the Spirit of Christ" that was IN them, (I Pet. 1:10-12). 3) No prophet of God ever spoke of his own will, but was borne a1ong by the Holy Spirit, (2 Pet. 1:21). 4) Every prophetic utterance was made through the Holy Spirit; it was HIS WORD that was on the prophet's tongue, (Heb. 3:7; 10:15-16; Acts 28:25; 2 Sam. 23:2). 5) More than merely supplying "thought" or "concept"; the Holy Spirit provided the very WORDS in which the prophetic thought was expressed, (I Cor. 2:13); and 6) The utterances of Spirit-directed apostles and prophets were nothing less than the very WORD OF GOD (Mk. 7:13; I Thess. 2:13).
    The Old Testament prophet was ever God's messenger -- proclaiming His Word, through the Spirit. At times the prophets heralded a message that they did not fully understand. And they were sometimes overwhelmed by a sense of URGENCY

in its deliverance, (Jer. 1:4-10). The Holy Spirit has EVER been with the people of God -- enabling all to triumph, to the extent of their yielding to His direction. His presence and power are still available and adequate for those who will yield to His direction. E.G.
THE FOUNT OF LIGHT

Come, Holy Ghost! Our hearts
      inspire,
   Let us thine influence prove;
Source of the old prophetic fire!
   Fountain of light and Love!

Come, Holy Ghost! for, moved by
      Thee,
   The prophets wrote and spoke;
Unlock the truth -- Thyself the Key;
   Unseal the sacred book.

Expand thy wings, celestial Dove!
   Brood o'er our nature's night;
On our disordered spirits move,
   And let there now be light.

God, through himself, we then shall
      know.
   If thou within us shine;
And sound, with all thy saints
      below!
   The depths of love divine.

    Beginning on October 4, Landmark Church will begin what will probably be a year-long study of SPECIFIC BIBLE DOCTRIINES. It is vital, in these trying times, that God's people be "rooted and grounded" in the Word of truth. It is not enough to BELIEVE something; one must have a REASON FOR HIS FAITH.
    It will be our aim to assist YOU in becoming "established" in the way of truth.
    WELCOME!! every Wednesday evening at 7:00 P. M. -- beginning on October 4. BRING A FRIEND!!
